ekoa® - CMF Design
The color and finish design work developed for ekoa®, a pioneering interior material company making flax-based veneers for architectural surfaces. The goal was to demonstrate that sustainable materials can be every bit as vibrant, expressive, and visually compelling as conventional alternatives.
The result is two collections that together span the full range of what the material can do, from vivid, saturated statement hues to quiet, nature-grounded neutrals, all in a low-VOC, plant-based veneer built for walls, ceilings, and millwork.
The ColorBurst Collection was a push to show how far a natural material could go chromatically. Over 40 saturated, low-VOC hues, organized into nine color families - each developed to carry full intensity on a flax-based surface without synthetic compromise.
From can't-miss reds and sunbaked oranges to golden-hour yellows, lush greens, dynamic teals, moody blues, statement purples, playful pinks, and dimensional grays: the range was designed to give designers the full spectrum to work with, and give the material a reason to be chosen on color alone.
Where ColorBurst explores the edges of the color spectrum, the Core Collection looks inward. The warm, neutral tones are drawn from the language of natural materials (sand, stone, fog, terrain) and refined into a palette that is earthy without being muted, and elevated without being cold.
Designed to anchor a space or recede into it, these finishes give architects and interior designers a foundation to build from that is versatile enough for any context, considered enough to stand on their own.
